AMELIA & AMELIA

When her mum was diagnosed with dementia Amelia went out to find out as much as she could about the condition. Throughout the country the support varies greatly and initially found it very difficult. She enrolled on a dementia awareness course and started to write down “tips” to remind herself when things became difficult.

This work is about two Amelias, a mother and daughter and started when Amelia Snr was diagnosed with dementia in 2014. Amelia Jr decided to give up work to care for her mum and this work hopes to show some of the aspects of being a carer. When she was diagnosed there wasn’t any information given by the doctor so Amelia enrolled on a course to understand more about the condition. Amelia spoke about learning to be more patient when she was caring for her mother as it can often be a very difficult role to take on.

“The Amelia guide is beautiful. I lost my nan during covid to dementia and my father to MSA both needed intensive care. This booklet made me cry, it does a fantastic job of sharing the experience and isolation. Thank you”
